The animation I promised Yes, it is only 5 seconds long, but I worked hard on it! It's part of a larger project that I started, so the mouth movements are for lip-syncing. I'll keep you up to date on the project, but enjoy the preview!

keep going! It needs some smoothing out but I like it, can't wait to see some more (you might try working out the 'encil' version of it first just to make some headway. it goes much faster to have something to look at and then go back and color it after you like how it moves)
If only I had a lightbox DX on the bright side, I'm applying for a school scholarship that will give be $100 pearls gift card, so if I get it I may be able to afford one, or the supplies to make one at least. For now though, it looks like I'm stuck working in photoshop. Do you have any suggestions on how I can smooth it out? Photoshop moves the frames so slowly, so when I add more the movement then takes too long.

well, I don't have any experience with photoshop, but I do have ideas. You could do each frame of the black and white "pencils" where everything is kept nice and sketchy in one piece where each frame is a layer on top of each other one. Then use the layer opacity to create a hazy version of the other frames so that it's easier to put the next one in place. Then save copies of the pencil picture and on the copies put in the solid black lines (inking) and the coloring for later after the motion of the animation is all figured out.
you know, like they do in real life
As far as lightbox...the simplest home made light box is flat translucent plastic (or glass with or without the underside lightly sprayed with white spray paint) and a lamp underneath, I guarantee that my light box is pretty simple (having taken it apart to put in the registration pegs that I made (they fit regular 3-hole punched paper) out of dowels the size of the holes set into a block of wood that I screwed into the front of my light box. I have no real complaints about it, it's worked for everything I needed from it.
searching around a little bit I found this [link] talking about a guys experience buy animation supplies (I totally recommend using the standard hole punch because you can make it yourself so you don't have to order it like you do for ACME punch.
By the way, have you read The Animator's Survival Kit yet? If not, you should. It's the best. Buy it used somewhere online. And that little book we got from SCAD actually is pretty interesting.
Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a go! Hopefully it will work....
I may be able to rope my dad into helping me make a lightbox instead of me having to buy one, but lately my dad has been busy, and with graduation coming, I have a ton of crap to do. Speaking of graduation, what it your address? I want to send my SCAD buddies grad invitations! (note me your address so no creepy fan begins to stalk you)

lol, okay, my zipcode is already public on DA for the "find deviants near you" thing. I hope things work out in your favor (also you might want to get some kind of animation software somewhere, anime studio's kinda cheap (50 bucks) but download a trial before you but to make sure it's what you're looking for, if not mention it and I'll see if I can find something else...
Some people have been asking me about this stuff so I decided to gather all information in one single article on how to make your own portfolio, in a profesional and clean looking way. I hope it's useful, because these steps I myself take.
In this article I will provide you some ideas how you can build your own homestudio for considerably cheaper price than it would cost to use "official" studio gear. I will also show you few examples where I have used the gear I describe during this article.
DeviantArt is full of extremely well produced artistic fashion and fine art photographs. Make up. Styling. Creation of scenery. Story. Light. Glamour. A combination of these expressions sometimes make up a great photograph. But the protagonists of these pictures are usually female.
So... now it's the time for male models to come into focus.
`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More
